Navigating César Chávez Day with a Trauma- Informed Lens

March 25, 2026

Dear Friends and Supporters,

In light of the recent reportings surrounding César Chávez and the related holiday, we want to take a moment to reflect on its meaning and reaffirm the values that guide our work at Wellnest.

We unequivocally condemn any actions that harm women and children and stand in solidarity with all those who have experienced abuse. Healing, dignity, and safety for every individual – especially the most vulnerable – remain at the core of our mission.

We also recognize the deeper roots of this holiday in the farmworkers’ movement – a movement grounded in service, and in the pursuit of social justice, equity, and fair working conditions. That work remains as important today as ever.

Across California, many young workers continue to face challenging conditions in agriculture, including exposure to extreme environments and limited protections. These realities can increase vulnerability, particularly for girls and young women, and remind us that there is still important work ahead to ensure safety, accountability, and dignity for all.

At Wellnest, we approach moments like this through a trauma-informed lens acknowledging harm, supporting healing, and advocating for those whose voices are too often unheard. We remain steadfast in our commitment to children, young people, and families, and to building communities where everyone has the opportunity to feel safe, supported, and seen.

Thank you for your continued partnership in advancing this work. Together, we can continue to create pathways toward healing and hope.

With gratitude,

Charlene Dimas-Peinado
